It rains on the good and the bad. Not everything is about hard work though it is a factor. Some skill is involved. Some "luck" too. I don't really believe in luck, but what other word applies? Why does a tornado take out one house and leave another standing? Timing is also critical. A good idea also has to have good timing. Some ideas flop because they are way ahead of their time. Other ideas flop because their time passed. I have heard of some really good analog devices that were way ahead of their time. Now, when those devices could go well, they are obsolete because of similar digital devices.
Who knows why? Ask God. In the meantime, work honestly. Be willing to take a risk now and then. Get an education. Educated risks are better than the wild guesses.
Lastly, risk is just that...risky. You have to be willing to risk in order to gain. I was part of an economics study in a classroom setting. I quickly maximized my potential at low risk. That was a very low potential. A simulated storm wiped out almost everyone except the low risk group. But I learned that though I didn't lose, I didn't have anything to lose either. I learned to take a small risk.

I am the second part of your question.Although I am in a fortune 500 company,I have been here since the main company I work for was only a second floor of a three story building, and it is now worlwide.Does ghost seem like the logical reason? I have really made the company prosper in a number of ways, but the managers have come and gone so much,my resume is short sighted to them, and they can only really see their/and your diploma's from the university as their guide in promotions, not the diploma of perserverance, hard work, etc.Maybe I need to get my piece of paper, but then I would be overqualified. Then I would be out of this job.Who has been most successful in your opinion? I feel my own success as I look back and work steadily every day,no job is guaranteed, but I have accomplished a lot.Just wanted to share this with corporate America..you know who you are.We are a dying breed, but important, never the less.

I think it alll depends on how hard a peson tries. People who try too hard often do not get what they want and because they are so focused they only have one set idea for an outcome. Other people may know that there are many many many different kinds of outcomes that rate all over the spectrum of good and bad possibilities. Therefore, these kind of people try hard but not too hard. And yet these people, as you said, seem more successful. So trying just hard enough and being flexible may be the key to success.

It is possible to work very hard at something that is of little value or is in great supply. For instance, massage therapists work very hard physically, but there are a lot of masage therapists. Java programmers work very hard mentally, but there are too many Java programmers and not enough jobs.
Also, to some extent, it takes money to make money. Some people have a lot of money, and there are some kinds of investments that make good money if you already have good money. For instance, it may be dumb to borrow money to invest in an abandoned warehouse, as your loan is going to come due before you ever get your money out of it. But if you have cash, you can sit on the property and let it gain value, then sell it when it's a hot property. Some mutual funds have a minimum investment as well, but a better gain.
Part of the trick is to be one of a handful of people who are VERY good at something in very high demand, and to have the freedom to take advantage of the opportunity without putting much at risk, or to be comfortable with the risk.
Also, it depends on how you define success.

Most people will say luck, but that's not true. It may seem like they succeed at everything, but that's only because success overshadows failure. Besides most who act as though they are naturally gifted have to work really hard in real life. It's most of the time an act.
Also, it's a frame of mind. If you spend all your time jealous of that person who always has the good life (seemingly) you're never going to be anything but just that, jealous!

Some are good at working very hard, and doing well. Others don't do well in spite of how hard they try. I guess it is human nature.
Others, are very innovative, and have lucky breaks. I'm not going to get into Karma, etc. But I will say, that if you have a dream, or an idea, pursue it to the fullest of your ability. Don't waiver, never give up. And always seek the help of others. Sometimes, being outside the box can give new insight into something you are trying to do.

I've noticed that successful people know their strengths and weaknesses very well. They choose to do only those things that implement their greatest strengths; it only looks easy to someone watching them. They usually work very hard to develop the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and character to be successful! It's all about choices and hard work. If someone is working hard and not getting ahead, they need to make some different choices! That could mean a job change, more education, etc.

Some of it comes from luck. I worked for a company the was run by a man that got lucky. Of course we did work hard that is part of it also. IN one year we grew from 50 people to about 250.
We were in the right place at the right time.

There are no people on the face of the earth who are successful at everything they touch if you think this is so then you are kidding yourself. People who appear to be successful at everything they do are in a constant state of concern as to how they can maintain their infallible facade. These individuals tend to be very adept at covering up their mistakes or finding a way to blame their mistakes on others. Do not be mistaken it all boils down to how good a person is at hiding his or her falibility. Those who appear to never get anywhere are people who learn more lessons and learn them more effectively and later in life reach their zenith.

Most people will say luck. But my argument would be that the ones who are successful have a feeling about things. This feeling could be from education, or it could come from having wise parents. The reason the successful people don't seem to be going at it so hard, they realize they can depend on others to worry for them.
