I have been employed with the same comapny for 16 years. They recently decided to be open on Sundays and later in the evening. I do not mind coming in to work at 6:30 am but I have a problem with working Sundays, Banks do not need to be open on Sunday. We hired people for Sundays now they do not want to work them. I feel the people with seniority should have first choice.

I agree and I have never heard of bank being open on Sundays let me know what bank this is so that If they were to ever call me for an interview I will turn them down. When a person works a 40 hour a week job Monday through Friday one should be OFF on the weekends that would be the ideal job. Just remember one important thing: TAKE A VACATION WHEN NEEDED, TAKE OFF WHEN YOU FEEL YOU NEED TO, BECAUSE THAT JOB WILL BE THERE ONCE YOU ARE DEAD&GONE. Take Care

You've been there 16 years - they should respect your preference! The others who were hired with the expectation they would work Sundays should be held to that. Sadly, life is not fair and you may have to work a Sunday once in a while. Hopefully your bank will discover that being open on Sunday is unnecessary!

Well, there are two sides to this story, both being right. For one, you were hired under the understanding that you would not have to work on Sundays. BUT, you are the employee not the boss. If they're open on Sundays now, you should have to work them too since you're a paid employee.

That is not to say I think it's fair, but life rarely seems fair.

best of luck, Nick

It's a new thing for banks to be open on Sundays to better serve customers

all should share the workload since all benefit from more customers, but seniority should come into effect somehow as well

As a Plant Engineer, and Head Superintendent, it is only respectful for the older people in Seniority to be able to pick their shift.

As your seniority increases, so should your power over your schedule. If you want Sunday off, tell work you can't work that day.

the world is full of people who would take any job offered.
if you want your company and your job to survive it's time you realised that the good old days are gone.
