because they're silly confused children.
I also think it's amusing that they dress this way because they "don't want to look like everyone else" they want to be "different and unique", when in reality they're just following another set of rules and looking just like another set of people.

Goths wear the clothes that make them stand out because they think it's beautiful. It expresses the way that they feel inside. They also wear that stuff to identify each other and know that they are not completely alone.
They don't want to change the way they look just because selfish small minded people don't like it.
Get over it.

Most goths believe that the colors purple and black are invisible to mortal eyes. That is why they wear purple and black, to be invisible. When they see someone staring at them, then they believe that person is immortal, probably some sort of demon. So they get mad because they think the demons of hell didn't tell them that they were coming to earth.

Goths are always hipocritcal. They act like they're victims and yet, when you don't fit in with them they act like they heat you.

They don't wear clothes to stand out, they wear them to express themselves. They don't like people starring cause it's rude and weird to have that vibe.
