Reformat the hard drive and reinstall everything.
You could also try virus scanners, ad/spyware scanners, and defragmenting first.

DO NOT format and reinstall, unless you have too. Microsoft has made a program called bootvis, they do not support it though, it will make a slow booting computer alot faster loading, and also go to your control panel and in the fonts folder delete the fonts that you don't use, when the PC boots it calls ALL fonts into loading, that slows a computer down also. But bootvis should handle your problem, if you reformat and reinstall the OS then alot of files are gone for good if you dont have backups and you have to download ALL MS Updates all over again - Yuck, Also run defragmenter, scandisk, and clean out useless files not being used.

If you wnat it to be like it was when you first got it, back up all of your improtant files and then wipe out the computer's operating system. Then, reinstall the OS (Windows, I'm assuming) and then put your important data back on. Tips for keeping the computer running smooth.... Defrag your harddrive on a regular basis, us an anti virus program. Download Spybot and Ad-Aware and run them on a weekly basis. Also, get Windows defender. You could try that stuff before you wipe out the computer and see if it helps any.

Well, you have several option that you can do.
First try installing some of the maintenance software, like Norton System Works.
If this doesn't help to speed up the computer, it would be a good idea to reinstall the operating system after which I would recommend to install a back up software or use Microsoft Back Up after which you can always restore one of the previous back ups of your operating system.
Good luck!

Well, its hard to get it back to original speed if it's slowed down, but you should run your disc defragmenter (start menu, all programs, accessories, system tools). Also run your virus program and an anti spyware/adware program such as adaware (free from www.lavasoft.com). There are other steps you can do but u should start here. If u have questions im me on AIM sn: a6stringjedi

Check for spyware. My son-in-laws sister had a PC that took 15 minutes to boot, and he discovered it had like 250 spywares. When he cleaned it up, it booted normally.

System restore/System recovery... restart your computer and read what it says at boot up. It should say system restore f5 or some f-key.
