If you can fly to Malaysia, would you fly Malaysia Airlines (the full-service and flag carrier of Malaysia) or AirAsia (low-cost airline)? And why?

depends where you want to fly. overall, after taxes and everything else, AirAsia is only slightly cheaper than Malaysia Airlines. so, Malaysia Airlines is still better because of the good service.

It is not a choice anymore of the passenger, neither the choice of MAS or AirAsia to fly to xxxxx.

Due to MAS heavy losses, the civil aviation authority divided fairly the routes between MAS and AirAsia, MAS got rid of the empty routes, and civil aviation authority ensured all destination are covered.
Some destination were exempted from this ration

Long Haul ( anything beyond 6 hours for me), i would definatley consider MAS. For short ones, AirAsia but if MAS price is comparable to AirAsia, i will take MAS.

WHY? because for Long Haul i still want to be served food, etc as i know for AirAsia, you will have to buy the food or doggie bag your own food. Unless they consider changing the rules for flight above 4 hours....and maybe a nice tv screen infront for movies and games.

it has to be Malaysia Airlines coz of its good customer service, although the fares are much higher than AirAsia.

Do you guys realise that, those destination that served by both MAS and Airasia, the price would be very competitive. ie. Jakarta.

Airasia is doing well with their cost structure, where i think MAS should learn from them.

normally, i take MAS but when im really broke but still wants to home, i'll take airasia. i agree, flying airasia is like taking a bus. and sometimes, it's not even that cheap anymore. so, MAS is my choice.

consider where u want to go... if overseas, yes, i'll choose MAS. but if i plan to go to Sabah, Sarawak or just neighbourhood country (only few hrs flight), i will definately fly with AirAsia. just a few hour trip, there is no need to spend so much on the luxury.
