Yeah, I believe he would have been cheered. As far as I know, there isn't a Muslim Anti-Defamation League just sitting around on their butts waiting for someone to step out of line and say the wrong thing when they're stinking drunk and being arrested.
I'm so sick of all this politically correct crap. Maybe we shouldn't be hating each other, but the fact remains that this is America, and people are still supposed to have the right to their own opinions, likes and dislikes. I always thought that being arrested was kind of a private thing, not that its happened to me much, but still.
Yes, I think that in the present mind-set of America, he would have been a hero for saying what the rest of us all thought.

OH YES!! He would've been seen as a hero because he'd be repeating what everyone else is saying...
but it's funny to see him wetting his pants after saying those remarks!! He realised that his life will be over because the Jews control America, so his best chances is to run back to Australia :))
Although his father been saying the same remarks for years and years, but his father is not as famous as Mel.
But it's nice to know that Mel Gibson is not brain washed by the media to accuse Muslims like everyone else.

What if no one cared what Mel Gibson said! Mel is not a hero, nor would he be one if he made comments about arabs or muslims, he is one person who is entitled to his opinions.

I can tell you that it wouldn't have gotten much press. People are saying horrible things about Muslims and Arabs all of the time lately. What's one more? He is just an actor who threw back a couple of drinks and talked his mind. What is the big deal? Does his opinion really affect anything? Come on guys, let it go.

I think he would get in the same mess he is in now. It doesn't make sense that he is getting all this crap throwed at him when he is just the newest person that has said stuff bad about the Israels. What about al sharpton (he ain't no reverend he's just like jesse jackson) he was on the White House lawn when he was talking about the Israels body count I believe, and he said that they were "jewing up the numbers" but nobody ever got on his case. Now would that be because he is black or is it because he is a democrate like most of the media is?

Bush would get him out of the DUI, and ask him to make public service announcements on the evil that is Islam. He would then be put on the Republican ticket in 2008, and win the nomination outright. Arnie could be his VP. They could be the Australia-Austria Connection (Truly a coalition of the willing).
