Years ago it seemed that only those who had served in the Navy or those who were rebel biker types had tattoos. Recently they have grown more common & about one quarter of all people between 18 and 50 in the US have at least one tattoo. Many very good & decent people have them & their reasons for getting a tattoo are quite varied. It may be that some view those with tattoos as "trash", but it used to be viewed a lot worse by the majority of people.

It is only people that get tatoos just becuase everyone else has one..those are the people that get viewed as trash. If you have a tattoo for personal reasons or religious then there is nothing at all wrong with that.

It's a stigma, people have to get over it. I have a tattoo. My mother-in-law is one of the coolest people I have ever met and she thought that. She had no idea I had one. Then she asked me about mine, what it was, and why, what it meant etc. I told her and she was cool with it. I have a tattoo and it is something that no matter what ever happens, no one can take it away, change the meaning or take the memory away from me. If that's trash, whatever. I guess I'm pretty clean and hard working trash :)

That is a good question. I saw a guy the other day that had tattoos all down his arms and around his neck. I thought to myself - that guy will never get a job other than working working some blue collar job like working as an auto mechanic or in construction. I think people who tend to get massive tattoos and body piercings have lower IQs.

I had my first at age 41, after surviving my 2nd heart attack. My second at 45, in honor of my son who had pulled himself through a difficult time. The first is a small shooting star on my right shoulder, and the second the Scottish Clan Badge representing my son's name, with his initials. I'm going to have it modified to include the "8" from the Eighth Air Force in memory of my father. It already has the star holding the seven Cameron arrows together. This is on my left shoulder.
They don't show when I'm in Court - not P.C. - and my father did say, after I managed to hide the first one from him for three years, "I would have died a happy man if I hadn't seen that." But hey, they have meaning, it's my body, and I was no kid trying to impress anybody when I did it. I thought long and hard before each one - and am still working up the nerve to have the second one modified.
I'm old enough that I don't care what anybody thinks and, I think you'd be surprised if you knew how many "middle-aged", professional, "upper class" people have one. I'm sure not "trash."
Just be sure you go to a reputable, safe place.

Some people, especially senior citizens, are brought up to look down on tattoos and associate them with low class people. i.e. criminals. I just had my grandma tell me I was a sl*t because I am a tattooed woman.
