Fees have increased dramatically since the new bankruptcy reform act went into effect last October. The court filing fee has increased to $299. There are 2 credit counseling classes that must be taken, average price is $100 for both. Then there are attorney fees, if you hire an attorney. The national average for ch 7 attorney fees is in the 800 to 1200 range.
In addition, you must provide documentation to your attorney or the court, some of which might cost you money to obtain, namely tax documents and lawsuits, if you did not keep copies.

You should contact a bankruptcy attorney to discuss your situation. A reputable one will meet with you to discuss the process and costs without charging you for his/her time for the consultation.
Beyond the filing fees and attorney's fees, you need to determine if it's best long-term path to take, and what you can do differently to rebuild your financial life. That's more than just credit counseling!

In TN...it's $398 (that's court costs, counseling fee and any other fee that has to be paid at the time you file). Plus your attorney fees which are around $1000.

I paid 800.00 to totally clear my record when I filed last June 2005. Imagine that it is different depending on where you are, I'm in South GA.
