Intersex refers to people who are neither completely male or female. Some intersex people are XXY instead of male(XY) or female (XX) and there are other things that fall into intersex category.
Should intersex be taught in schools so if a girl has an intersex baby she doesn't freak out and send it off to surgery to make it a 'girl'. This way when the child grows up it can decide if it wants the surgery or not to be made into a female.

I read 1 out of 2,000 births is ambious, meaning the doctors don't know what it is.

This is a difficult question. It's clearly something for health class, but I've seen piss-poor health teachers who I doubt could come close to dealing with this topic. Intersex is difficult anyway because parents are inevitably, regardless of genitalia, going to choose a gender for the child. That child will identify as either male or female until puberty hits and makes it clear. You're right, but I'm not sure our society is set up to hand a non-gender child since everyone and everything seems to need to be categorized.

Regarding your statistics, I'm curious as to why so many babies are being born this way. Any ideas?

I have been out of high school for nearly twenty years now. We learned about it biology and health. There is no reasonable reason not to be taught about this or any other genetic abnormalities that can occur. We were taught many useless things in high school, but this falls into the category of news we can use. Even if a student learns about it and never has a child with the condition the information can contribute to their development of a social conscience and awareness of people's differences.

I also believe this should be taught in schools. If people become aware of what being intersex is; the more it can help a person who is like this.

Intersex is usually covered in biology in a basic sense. During the genetics unit a class will usually go over Klinefelter's syndrome (XXY).

I think that it should be taught in school sex ed classes. I didn't know what it meant until right now. It is definetly something that people should be educated about. 1 out of 2,000 is actually a pretty high rate, so people should be made aware of this.

In a biology class or a sex education class these types of things should always be taught. The more we know growing up the better adults we will make. It’s important that children understand.

I think it should! It could help intersex teenagers, plus help to educate kids and dispel myths about intersex stuff.

To be honest I have never heard of such, but if it is such, yes it should be taught right along with sex ed. The kids need to be aware of everything.

It's a reality of life on planet earth. Why not make high school students aware of that?
