I, have heard, that, too many commas, can, ruin, a good sentence.
However, I prefer comma's to be used sparing.

Why not word it: 1. I was able to see the owl's nest by climbing higher. and 2. I suppose the riddle will never be solved. This shows a more fluent train of thought. But if you want it o be difficult, then 1=B and 2= A.

correct would be.. 'climbing higher, i never could get up there high enough to see the owl's nest'
and 2, i suppose the riddle will be solved somday.
lol, you got the answer already and that is what 'homework help' category is for... i learned a lot when somebody 1st told me one answer, then i could figure out the rest from there. (50 years ago)

Qn 2) a. This is because the subject of the sentence is the riddle, and you are essentially saying that "i suppose the riddle will never be solved." Option b does not flow as smoothly and is grammatically wrong.

1. a. because you do not use a comma if the phrase at the beginning of the sentence is less than 5 words. "climbing higher" is only two words so no comma is needed
2. a. because "i suppose" is nonessential and it interupts the flow of the sentence
