The Apartment starred Jack Lemmon and Shirley Maclaine. It's smart, funny, sad...kind of hard to describe...a romantic comedy for smart people.

There's lot's of old movies such as this one. I haven't seen this one in years. Jack Lemon I think has left us now, but Shirley MacLane is very much alive. Jack played in Grumpy old men. I don't know where to start with the older movies. You need to see the ,"The Hardy Family." It's starring, Mickey Roonie and Judy Garland from the original wizard of OZ. The Turner classic movie channel on Satellite TV has lots of the older movies. You can also buy a lot from Walmart. Ebay has a wide selection. A lot were put out by RKO and Metro-Golden-Mayer movie studio the old Twentieth Century Fox movie studios. Katherine Hepbern, Spencer Tracy, Clark Gable, Lana Turner, Marylin Monroe, Gretta Garbo, Alan Lad, and many many more. I grew up in the 60's and it was the best and cleanest movies around. I miss those days, too. If there's any particular movie your interested in just contact me and I'll find where it is. Good Luck and Happy movie hunting.

How about Jerry Maguire? When Jerry Maguire came out, there were a lot of comparisons made with The Apartment (e.g. Shirley Maclaine vs Renee Zellwegger). The director also talked to Billy Wilder before making the movie.
Billy Wilder's made some great movies. Have you watched Some Like it Hot? Otherwise, old screwball comedies are fun (Bringing up Baby with Hepburn and Grant, Philadelphia Story, again with Hepburn, Grant plus Stewart).

If you like the Apartment, you should see Loser, with Jason Biggs and Mina Suvari. If you pay attention, it is actually a remake of the Apartment. It has the same basic plotline, but with college students and a professor as the main characters. And it's cute. If you like Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine, you would like Irma La Douce. It's cute, too, but a little lighter than The Apartment.

The Misfits is very good was the last film Clark Gable
did, Marilyn Monroe was in it, as well as Eli Wallach excellent choice
On the Waterfront another good choice Brando, Lee J Cobb and Karl Malden,
Requiem for a Heavyweight excellent
Hud with Paul Newman and Patricia Neal fantastic
To Kill a Mockingbird Gregory Peck is very good and music in it is first class
tons and tons of movies from 60's and 70's are definitely worth watching they have stood the test of time
and so much higher quality and creativity compared to most films made today
have fun !
