Boys can you tell if a goalie is a girl even if she does not have a ponytail sticking out of her helmat and you do not know she is a girl? Can you tell just by looking at her face with her mask on?

I am asking because I have boys' bantam tryouts this weekend, and I want to know if they can tell it is a girl. And I do not have a ponytail yet. Wish me luck!!

Unless the woman is big by women standards (5'10, 180 lbs), her height and her size will give her away. Also, a woman's features are often different than a man's, so if a guy saw a woman up close, that would probably be a bit of a giveaway too.

I think from the rafters, a good goalie is a good goalie - who cares if she is a boy or girl, but I think if you're speaking entirely about being identified, you may need a darn good spy kit to get past the coaches at tryouts.

Girl or guy if you out perform the other goalies you will get the spot. I know a girl who played goalie in high school and was amazing ended up getting a full ride to a D1 school. So just go out there and act like you belong out there and just outperform the other goalies and you wont have a problem. Good luck

One of the guys that you're trying out with will see you comming in to the arena, and tell the rest of the guys. You'll never be able to keep that secret. Even if no one see's you going to the dressing room, I'm sure all the other goalies that your trying out with will tell the rest of the team.

My advice, don't hide the fact that your a girl. Use it to your advantage. Watch the boys get pissed of when they stoped on a breakaway. Try taunting them a bit.

Nope. Too many pads. Save everything that comes near you and it won't matter to even the most prejudice of hockey players. I say if you can play the game, get in there. Doesn't matter if you're a girl or not. Ask Manon Rheaume! Check out the link below if you need inspiration! Go get em kid!

Yeah, people can tell you're a girl. But it shouldn't make a difference at the tryouts. Good luck!

From far away no, but get up closer and you can plus guys sweat a lot so that's another way to tell, and if the goalie is slow then it's ethier a girl or a tired guy.

the goalie on my team is a girl, and she has the postion because she was the best for the job. as far as telling that she was a girl, yeah i knew because of facial features. it doesn't matter guy or girl i want the best available for the postion because it is the most important postion in the game. best wishes on your tryout! stand tall and just do what you do best.

It depends. Sometimes it carries over into play style but some features can be a giveaway. For instance, when they ask if everyone is wearing a jock strap, that could be a giveaway. Anyways... Good luck.
