It could be an oral fixation. Or....
Someone in your past chewed or had them, and they may have did something to strike fear into you. It could have been in a situation that had chicklets, that was horrifying so you associate chicklets with fear.
I associate wintergreen life savers candy with a person, but it is a good remembrance
