I'm still tryin to fix a laptop. What is a wmp.inf file? Do I need it? I have the windows XP CD in the drive.

I would guess that it is a Windows Media Player information file. It contains option settings for Windows Media Player. You may not need it, try moving it to another location and start media player, if it complains about not being able to find the file, put it back. It may recreate the file automatically if it is needed.

Note that this is only a guess.
