My ex will most likely go to jail for awhile and tomorrow morning is the only time my 16 year old son will have to see him before, but he has decided to go to a party with his friends instead. Dad is not a big part of his life and I think my son is following dads lead by not being there tomorrow. Will my son regret not seeing him tomorrow?

He might, but he's almost an adult, definately old enough to make an informed decision, albeit maybe not a mature one.

Not that what he's doing is necessarily immature; he just may be making a decision based less on logic and more on emotion, so even if this is the right thing to do, he may not be doing it for the right reasons. But ultimately, it's his call. Sounds like you are wondering if you should tell him what to do. I don't know if that's a good idea or not.

I think your son will miss out on not seeing his dad, but on the other hand this should tell you something about your ex, if he's planning on partying with his friends instead of spending time with family, I'm glad he's your ex, and hopefully your son is old enough to know that his dad priorities are mixed up, and he has a loving mom to look up to.

Nobody know the answer to this question, but I think your son should do what makes him happy. His father sounds like a big disappointment and maybe even an embarrassment. A sperm donor does not make a father.

He may not realize that he regrets it - he may just look at it as another
event that his father screwed up on - even though it was his desire not
to go that would have stopped them from meeting.

You are a family - his friends are not part of this. It is important that your
son recognize his familial obligations, even if his father didn't and even
if his friends are infinitely more interesting.

maybe but if dad isn't a big part of his life to begin with then let his dad reap what he has sown.......your son will see him when he is ready......he might just not want to see his dad go to jail also
