Well if you are ready to pay a bit, you could use DVD rippers which are pretty good and easy to use, eg. http://www.imtoo.com/dvd-ripper.html
This software is pretty good..
If you are ready to work around a bit and tinker with settings (i.e if you understand it - its not too tough)youo could use this free software:

IT works perfectly, but different DVD's come in different format and there might be a difference in the audio and video of the final file.. To fix this you gotta put in the right settings.. I use this.. and it works perfectly fine with all the DVD's that I have backed up using this software..

get DVDDecrypter. it'ls been shut down, but i'm one of the few that still have the .exe file. send me a message if you want instructions on how to use it and watch DVDs.
