I'm having trouble on how much to feed my hamster treats. She eats them alot, but I don't want to over feed her. Should I feed them once/twice daily, weekly.. how many times weekly?

once daily is fine just watch the quantity. 1/2 a baby carrot is fine or a piece of broccoli about the half the thumb size. small piece of apple or pear is good. just watch the sweet treats like yogurt drops, go easy on them. anytime they are awake is fine. NO CITRUS or lettuce.

I have about 12 male dwarf hamsters and about 18 female dwarf hamsters and I give them a variety of treats. I go to Petsmart and buy 7 different treats because there are 7 days in the week and I give them 1 treat per day. Like on Monday they'll have honey drops, Tuesday they'll have wafer crackers, Wednesday iceberg lettuce, etc.... I'll just give them something different each day and not the same thing day after day and that way they won't become tired of eating the same treat day after day. Plus you'll find out what treats they like best.

Assuming you have a "normal" hamster, that is a Syrian hamster- aka a golden hamster or short haired hamster- a treat a day is fine depending on what they are.

A fresh piece of carrot every couple days is a great treat. It's not as fattening as most and is also very nutritious. A couple commercially available hamsters treats a week is fine, such as yogurt drops or honey treats.

I know tht with sunflower seeds you should only give a syriian hamster about 3-4 a day and if he's a dwarf only 1-2. a great place to get advice about this kind of stuff is www.hamsterhideout.com/forum

It does depend on what type of hamster you have, but here is what I do with my fancy hamster:

Her favorite treats are yogurt drops I get at the pet store. I get her out in the evenings to play with her. After she's run around in her hamster ball for a while & run around with me handling her, I put her back in her cage....then reward her for being patient with me while I handled her. She looks forward to play time outside of her cage now, because she gets her treat (just a yogurt drop or two) every day afterwards.

Good luck!
