Women are treated as second class citizens. Why is this?

Because in fundamental Islam women are just property for men. They're like pets. (Although in all fairness not all of the women half to wear them.)

yeah, it's one of those paradoxes - why would liberals support Muslims when most liberals are feminists and want equal rights for women? Islam is basically antifeminist.
i'm a feminist but i think Islam is pathetic and barbaric, and I don't sympathize with muslims at all

Their faith believes in ultimate modesty for women. Even to the point to which they should not show their faces in public - this is disrespecting their husbands.
