I can't believe nobody's mentioned this yet, but I'd say rotting butter or milk has the worst smell by far. It'll literally make you vomit uncontrollably if you get enough of a smell of it. Rotting organic grease is a close second. A lot of these other things mentioned do smell bad but a lot ( not all ) of what makes you think so is the association involved with the smell and not necessarily the smell itself.

I'll agree with the other answerers in general and add one most people might not have smelled before - the smell of sugarcane fields burning before being plowed under. It does not smell just like burned sugar - it is more like the smell of dirty diapers burning, and it fills the air around for miles.

A Paper Factory, smells like burnt cabbage,greens pig feet all in one. Franklin Virginia has one. I have never got ton use to that smell every time I go down there. It stink! lol
