i'm looking to buy a pathfinder or a 4runner. If I don't take it offroad and don't need it to drive in the snow or ice, do I really need to spend the extra money on a 4x4? I've heard that a 4x4 is harder on your tires and brakes, is this true?

Don't spend on a 4x4. Save the money for your car insurance. Suspension of Pathfinder is better than 4runner.

4x4 is more expensive and very easy to gandle in bad weather conditions such as heavy snow etc. But I personally recommend u to buy a 4x4 so that u could use in both good and bad conditions. Once u start using the 2x4 in snow u will regret that u didnt invest an extra few dollars on the 4x4

if you are not goin to use it off road or in snow, then I would just buy the 2x4. the 4x4 will be more expensive if you have to replace the differential and then of course I am sure the cost of the vehicle to begin with is more..

Yes the 4x4 is harder on tires, and brakes, and even suspension. Reason, more weight to stop, and handle.

Not really..... the main drawback is weight and driveline drag that will reduce gas mileage. Also more things to go wrong. I love my 4x4 but its cuz i need it, so if you dont need it then get a 2wd.
