In Kentucky can a store owner or manager make a cashier pay for a short drawer even if cashier counted up even? Sounds like a scam to me.

In my state, I've worked at places where they do make you pay IF YOUR DRAWER IS SHORT, places where they do not make you pay and places where they will only make you pay if it's over a certain amount.

Making someone pay for a short drawer that COUNTS UP EVEN sounds like a scam to me. If YOU are the cashier, are you not only watching the manager/owner count your drawer, but perhaps also (under these circumstances) asking for a mutually agreed upon witness?

I think if you're liable, this is the LEAST you are entitled to.

Good luck!

PS- If you are liable for a "short drawer" and you are certain it is even (you've double-checked your counting), I suggest you find another job with a more respectable and capable employer.

I used to work as a cashier once and their policy was if your drawer was over OR short by $2 or more, you had to pay. The manager would count the drawer and if it were short or over $2, you had to count it yourself. They were really good about trying to find the problem.

Usually when I was a cashier...I counted my drawer at the end of my shift, and then the manager counted it beside me just in case i didn't count right. But when I came out missing a couple bucks or whatever, they just warned me. Anything over 5.00 was a days off w/o pay.

Some places are really nasty about this. Anything over 5.00 you have to pay back. When I was going to college worked part time and there it was anything over a dollar.
