Qn 1) you can do this by finding out the enlarged painting length in inches.
now 1 foot is 12 inches. so 3 ft by 4 ft is equivalent to:
(3 x 12) by (4 x 12) inches
which gives you 36 by 48 inches.

now compare ( 6 by 8) with (36 by 48), dividing either corresponding set,
(36 / 6) or (48 / 8)
will give you a scale factor of 6.

the photograph has been enlarged 6 times.

answer is (a). 6.

Qn 2) You need to provide more information for this especially if you are dealing with a square or rectangle. There can be no possible answer at this stage. Is that all the info the question has?

Hope this helps. :D

1. Taking the shorter side of the photograph, 6" is enlarged to 3ft (i.e. 36")

Scale factor = 36/6 = 6

You can counterscheck the answer by doing the same for the longer side.

Therefore, the correct answer is (a).

2. More information required.

1)
To find scale, compare the different measurements.

6" becomes 3 feet
8" becomes 4 feet

But, there are 12 inches in a foot, so:

3 [feet] * 12 [inches] / 1 [foot] = 36 inches
4 [feet] * 12 [inches] / 1 [foot] = 48 inches

So, it's actually:

6" becomes 36"
8" becomes 48"

Scale = 36"/6" or 48"/8"
= 6 or 6

Answer is "a"

2)
