I am still in high school (a junior), but Pre-Medicine is something i've considered studying in college. I have a 3.0 GPA, and i've taken science and math classes such as physical science, biology, algebra 1, geometry, and this coming year im taking algebra 2 and chemistry honors. Senior year i plan on taking pre-calculus for math, and human anatomy for science...do you think with these classes and GPA i could get into a pre-medicine curriculum in college, if i keep up the grades this year and next year?

Don't panic. Everyone else is saying a 3.0 is not too good...that is true. But it really doesn't matter at this point because you are in HIGH school still. In college, you will never be able to get into medical school with a 3.0...I promise you that. My advice: keep working hard, get into a pretty good college, then just absolutely focus on school and school only to stay above a 3.5 for medical school. Then you'll need a 30 or so on your MCAT...depending. It doesn't matter so much WHERE you go to college, as it does how well you do...and how well you use your time there. Do research, volunteer...and keep that GPA up. Figure out if medicine is really what you want...alot of people WANT to be doctors (or at least they think so), but it really is a hard thing to do. Volunteer to shadow a doctor too...my friend was pre-med until he actually shadowed a doctor. Then, he hated it. Just make sure; you don't want to be $200,000 in the hole from medical school or doing a job you hate.

It's very likely that the more you strive for these challenging classes you will be more prepared for the pre-med curriculum at any university. Keep your grades up and any involvement that you are in at school . Colleges watch these things intensively. Best wishes to you. You are headed in the right road!!

hi,

is 3.0 the highest possible GPA at your school? (i know some schools have highest GPA of 4.0 and some have 5.0). If you can increase your GPA, that would be good.

otherwise, sounds like you're doing well. keep it up :-p

does your school have AP classes? it would be good to take AP bio and chem if you can.

also, how about any practical experience? might be good if you have volunteered at a hospital, behavior center, etc.

good luck!

Excellent classes, but more is better and as the other answerer said, higher GPA. Sad but true, even 4.0's battle for spots.
