like people do things like go to college and get jobs and buy things, e.t.c. But when you really think about it, is any of this even going to matter when you die? Are people going to look at you after you die and think "wow, this person went to college" or "wow, this person had this job" or "wow, this person bought that hat while they were alive"? Exactly. Nobody is going to care about any of that. Unless you are famous most likely the only people who will recognize your death are friends and family, and all they are probably going to think about is their grief over your death. So why even do it? Why even put yourself through any of the trouble you are enduring by going to college, to work, e.t.c. when it won't even matter what you did once you have died? Once you die it wont matter if you put yourself through any trouble while you were alive. You could lead a life without any troubles and be thought about no differently when you die than if you did endure trouble. So why not do that?

We are all part of nature, living things that will eventually die, hopefully after producing offspring. Just image how happy plants must be without a brain the ponder such problems.

You know what, you sound really depressed. I don't know if you realize it, but life is a precious gift. Within that gift though, life has it's ups and downs. We all go through them. So, what are you saying, just don't work because we're going to die anyway? There's one little problem with that - we have to provide a roof over our heads, and put food on the table. And, while we're at it, maybe we'd like to rent a movie, or see a play or take a vacation. I can just see you - "...hey, what are you doing Friday night?" "...oh nothing. I'm going to die anyway." Come on! Death waits for all of us, but until that time, get out there and have some fun and learn something and buy yourself something and love someone and accept their love in return and enjoy the sun beaming down on you! And yes, grow wiser from having experienced difficulties. It's all a part of life.

If you can live a life "without any troubles" by not going to college or whateverall, then I think you are on the right track. College and "BIG" jobs, houses, cars, wardrobes, etc can end up being prison's on earth. However, I went to college and have a great paying job that allows me to work 20 or so hours a week and make enough money to take care of all of my responsibilities. And I love the work I can do only because i have a degree. So, always, follow your heart, not what society shouts at you all your life.

Very interesting. I think you are saying "what is the value of ambition"?

I think if it pleases you, go for it. If not, swill slop in the gutter. However, the time between now and death can be more pleasant if you gain knowledge, do something considered 'constructive' and spend days pleasantly engaged with people who have showered and used deodorant instead of spending your time conversing with the other crackpots under a bridge, trying to stay off their windward side to avoid the stink . . .

Just a thought.

Nothing matters AFTER we die.

Right now we are dealing with the part BEFORE we die.

I personally feel that it doesn't matter what a person does with his life. However, I know that for me some ways to live are more exciting and interesting than others, so I have always chosen those ways. I imagine other people feel the same way about their lives.

I'll try to a brief as possible....No matter your personal beliefs, speaking from a strictly physics standpoint.we and all matter are compressed energy.and as we know energy is never destroyed it merely changes forms..that being the case an afterlife of some kind is a logical conclusion. Now since we don't take any material items with us.Memory is all we get...Therefore living as long as possible in order to build as many good memories as possible is advisable. If only to take something with us...

haha. i used to ask stuff like this (while high or on shrooms and therefore way more freethinking and more introspective), but really you know the answer at face value.. thats because ppl are scared of really thinking about their own death. its not like people tour cemetarys every day and think about death.

on the other hand, if youre willing to take a christian look at it, it has to do with you having a "free will" to do good or evil in your life, and ultimately a chance to choose what way you live your life... so its a opportunity to come closer to what god likes, or him giving you the free will to choose against him. anyway, thats a whole other topic but you might want to think on that more if you want.

then theres the thing about humans being social animals. and everywhere in nature you see social animals living in groups and helping each other out in their own way etc. sort of like us, except animals do it better.
people dont like thinking about stuff like what youre asking because it causes uncertainty, takes them outside what theyve been taught about life, and that scares them.

if youre just asking this as thought provoking question, thats cool. if you really feel this way inside, maybe theres something wrong and you should be concerned about that. either way interesting question, feel free to email.

That's like when kids say showers are pointless because they'll get dirty again.
You're supposed to live to be happy, and make your family happy. and yes, they will be the only ones remembering you, but that happens with famous people too, their fans remember the "image" and the fake part.

Don't be lazy

I agree. But through struggling through college and getting a good job, you can make the time you're alive pleasant. That's how I feel about it.

In the end the only things that will matter is what you did for Christ! I suggest you think on this and decide it's high time I started doing things that matter.
