While at stop lights my idle is normal at about 800 RPMs, then it drops about 100 and the car shakes for a couple seconds. Back to normal. then it drops again. This happens about every 5 or so seconds. It seems worse in hotter weather. What causes this. I probably have to go to a mechanic but I was hoping it was a simple problem I could fix.

I'm not a mechanic but i heard that you should check the air filter. you can probably fix it at home yourself but if not, go to the mechanic.

A good place to start is if the check engine light is on, pull the code. That should give you a good starting point of what to check. A few things that could cause a bad idle are: an idle air control valve, map sensor, MAF sensor, intake air temp sensor, vacuum leak, fuel system problem, just to name a few.

you do no longer point out in spite of if the catalytic converter exchange into replaced, as that must be the exhaust scent. you do no longer point out in spite of if the transmission is automatic or handbook, as a snatch concern ought to describe the 2d equipment concern or if that's an automatic, an inner pump or a torque converter concern. Oil tension ought to variety some with the aid of fact the engine revs, with the aid of fact the oil pump is run by using the engine, and it pumps greater good at greater rpms. start up with the on your funds and artwork your way up. First, have the EGR valve replaced, alongside with the oxygen sensor. Your metallic/tapping noise could be coming from the transmission, yet whilst no longer, you in all likelihood should not be driving it till you hit upon out for particular. Did you get a verify engine easy? if so did you run the codes to be certain what it meant (places like AutoZone or strengthen automobile factors will verify it for loose).
