but how do i network these two computer, the desktop and connects to the internet directly and the laptop and uses the wirless so i can share folders and use one printer

For file sharing, you need to make sure that both PCs are within the same workgroup and same IP segment.

For internet access, both PCs need to set the router as the default gateway.

You can manually configure the IP or set the router to assign the IP automatically with all the configuration settings.

Be sure what you are doing when u set IP manually. It requires more advanced knowledge on this.
