Ok anyone who has seen American Beauty knows that Col Fitts, shoots and kills Lester Burnham (Kevin Spacey's character) at the end, the one thing i dont know (and maybe no one does) is why? (homophobia perhaps?)

I think it did have something to do with homophobia or the fact that Fitts tried to kiss Burnham in the garage but got turned down...remember that scene

I think the reason he shot Lester was because he was embarrassed about finally coming out to somebody who he thought was just like him but he was wrong and col fitts was afraid that Lester would tell his wife and family and it would spread through town so in his mind he had to be killed.

It is because Col.Fitts had homosexual tendancies and felt it was a weakness,being a hardcore military guy and all,especially after he went on and on about hating'*******",great movie though!
