ok, so you are walking down the street. i point a gun at you and say come with me or i shoot. you can not resist if you wish to live. that's gunpoint.

That is our way of saying someone pointed a gun at them, and threatened them with death if they did not do as they were told. When the gun is aimed at them, that is by gunpoint. When you think about it, it is weird to say it that way, but that's how we say it.

Literally-someone puts the business end of a firearm towards you and compels you to do something under threat of being shot. Figuratively-being compelled to do something you don't want to via duress.
