finding out if it is a boy or girl is easy. If it has a knot like thing on its belly then it is a boy, if not then it is a girl.

If this baby coon is very small it needs to be bottle fed I used enfamil for babies for my baby coon and it worked really good. She is 2 years old and full of mischief. They do not do bad in the house until they get weaned then they will destroy your house. If u put it in a cage, it will need a small house to hide in as they love to hide.
Mine will eat dry dogfood, catfood, leftover macaroni and cheese. I do not give mine raw meat as i do not want her biting, and the coon is a wild animal and you do not want it to have the taste of blood unless u are going to set it free.
Keeping a wild baby is illegal in alot of states so u need to check with ur local conservation department and see if u can get a permit to raise it, or keep it a BIG secret.

raccoons can eat anything so experiment and u will figure out the foods it loves and enjoys.

They can survive turning them back into the wild only if you take it out and not cage it so it can investigate and stay a wild animal. I did this to my first coon and i let him get extremely mean and not domesticated. A female coon will stay tame until they reach 2-3 years old this is when they start going into heat. I really do not recommend u keeping it, if it can be on it's own set it free, but if it needs a bottle do what someone said and get ahold of wildlife rescue. I do have scars on my arms and legs from my first coon. Boar coons get meaner faster than females.

It is illegal to cage any wild animal u can raise them if they can stay free to roam whenever they want.

Raccoons are wild animals, and as such should be left in the wild.

It may well be illegal to keep a raccoon as a pet in your state. If you are set on keeping it, check out your state's regulations first. If it is not legal and you keep it anyway you will have a lot of problems. It will be extremely difficult to find any vet who will look at it, so you would be out of luck if it gets sick or hurt. If someone notifies the state that you have it, it will be confiscated and probably euthanized, and you may be fined.

It may be cuddly and sweet now. But eventually its instincts will kick in, and you will have an unhappy and probably vicious animal on your hands. The above person's story is a good example of this. Also, it will get into everything. Raccoons are curious and destructive by nature, and if you let it roam around your house nothing will be safe from it. If you don't let it roam around it will be very unhappy.

It is a WILD ANIMAL. You cannot domesticate it. If you take care of it for a while and then release it, its chances of surviving in the wild are greatly reduced. For your sake and the raccoon's sake, let it go. If it is injured, take it to a wildlife rehab center. (This site http://www.wildlife-international.org/EN/public/emergency/emergencyrehab.html) can help you find one near you.)

(In states in which it is legal to keep raccoons, some people breed them. These raccoons have been domesticated over many generations and are no longer wild animals. These site http://utut.essortment.com/raccoonspets_rjsf.htm and http://exoticpets.about.com/gi/dynamic/offsite.htm?zi=1/XJ&sdn=exoticpets&zu=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.mnsi.net%2F%7Eremocoon%2Fremofaq.htm have some information about keeping a domestic raccoon as a pet. If you must have a pet raccoon, find a breeder and buy one. This page http://www.mnsi.net/~remocoon/regulats.htm can give you some idea of whether or not it's legal in your state, although it's very out of date.)

Remember, a wild raccoon will always be a wild raccoon. If you want this animal to have a happy life, let it go.

do you want my advice....
pay attention.

We found a 2 month old baby racoon, and we brought it home. It would sleep in our laps, and would eat from our hands. It grew to be the most wonderful and beautiful racoon you can imagine.

Three years went by, and he was already an adult, and he played and was always nosy about everything and everybody that would come to the house.

Then the attacks started. It started attacking the visitors we had at home. He still would sleep with us in the bed, and we would play with it, and no problems at all.

The thing escalated to a point, where he kind of lost his nose, and wouldnt recognize us. Its a pity because we have spent so many hours with this animal, and so much love and caring and, it was so tender when it was around us.

He attacked my mother, twice. Literally tore pieces from her leg. She has *well now had* wonderful legs, and now she has a very ugly scar, that took 8 months to heal. Yes.... 8 months. It left her a whole in her leg. When my mum comes home, if you want, I can take a pic and send it to you, so you can see.... I mean i dont want to sound negative, but... why would an animal that has been literally pampered for THREE YEARS would start to attack those near it?

We had to set it free cause we wouldnt know next when it would attack.

They are wonderful creatures, very intelligent, but they are not really pets. Its a risk if you have one at home.

Hope yours doesnt turn out to be one like that.

AHH before I forget... we never hurt the animal, or hurt him or hit him in any way. So thats not the case. He was our little baby

Among the things the racoon likes to eat, are

Seeds, grapes, chicken breast, *ours liked macarroni or spaghetti with some chicken in it* or shrimps,
milk, some bread..and we have here in our country something called, fried bread...he loved it a lot.
oatmeal, raisings, apples..... you name it...

By legislation, if you happen to entice a are living raccoon you need to kill it. So I'd say your high-quality choices are to entice it away with meals, deal with it like a cat and spray it with water while you see it or see it round your house. No animal likes water sprayed on them, (good perhaps puppies), or study what kind of matters raccoons hate. My puppies used to chunk on there puppy condo so I positioned highly spiced barbecue sauce in all places the sides, they in no way chewed once more! so perhaps raccons dont like a exact odor, study and i am definite you can discover approaches to hold him out. well success!

I love Raccoons but be careful, many tend to have rabies.
Find out if there is a vet who will look at the little bandit.

Is it a baby one ? If so you should bring it to the the vets. Could have many deseases for one thing. If it is an adult one... do the same and let it go. The wild ones are not use to human contact and can be mean.
