sit down and write down everything you know about this person...

look at the information from an investigative point of view..
what were their interests?
childhood interests can determine a person's career... or membership of particular groups or societies.
Do you know anything of their other relatives?
Do you know anything of their friends at the time...
There is a saying that the apple doesnt land far from the tree and this is often the case... quite often people end up living not far from where they grew up...
who were their parents..


if this is a male there is a good chance they still have the same surame so the yellow pages may help...
if a female it could be a bit more difficult as she may have changed her name more than once since childhood.

I found someone once by ringing everyone in the white pages with that surname and asking them if they knew the person...

the person I was looking for did not have the phone connected but their dad did.... and he passed on a message for me.. the frist few times I called and got the answering service I was a bit too vague to get a response and it turned out his dad had had a relationship some years previously with a woman of my name and thought it might be her trying to cause some probs... so be fairly specific about who you are why you are looking for the person..

You'd have to look for census records or birth records for the town/territory. Contact the local government offices, they should be able to help you.
