Don't really know how it got in the office. It's very much alive but it can't fly. It looks so tiny and frail. Is it also safe to hold it? What can I give it?

I didn't touch it nor move it. I waited for my friends to come help it. But when they got here, it was already dead. They said that these species, fruit bats of Taiwan, never bite.
Thanks for all your help. And birdgirl, I'm sure it's a baby coz I've seen one much bigger before which flopped right on my feet and took off again.

It is not safe to hold it without protection. Bats can carry rabies. If you get bitten, the bat will have to be killed to test it for rabies, and you may have to undergo a series of shots.

The best thing to do is to take it to a wildlife rehabilitation clinic as soon as possible. Depending on state and/or county laws, and individual policies, certain clinics may not accept bats. Call first and ask, and if they don't ask if they know where you can take it.

This site http://www.wildlife-international.org/EN/public/emergency/emergencyrehab.html can help you find a clinic near you. (This site http://www.batworld.org/local_rescue/local_rescue.html can help as well, as it specializes in bats.)

In the meantime, keep in in a quiet, dark place, and don't bother it too much. Put it in a small box with a towel or cloth inside where it can hang (the cloth should be near the top, since they hang upside down), and make it loose enough so the bat can hide. Put a small amount of water in a shallow dish (a small jar lid should work), near the side of the box. Make sure the box is closed tightly, but air should be able to get it. It sees you as a predator, and it will get stressed out easily. So don't touch it, poke it, talk loudly around it, or try to feed it.

Its best chance is if you take it to a rehab clinic as soon as possible. Good luck.

If it is a baby it shouldn't be hunting. If it can't fly, its pretty much done for. Bats in the majority of North America eat insects (since you're not speaking spanish, I assume you're not in mexico where you get those ones that eat blood).

If you're determined to attempt to nurse it to health, stop by a sporting good store and get some fishing bait, specifically meal worms. Mash them up. The bat will need A LOT of food (like half its weight or more) per day, and probably more if it is injured. This will take a lot of effort on your part as a bat's metabolism is incredibly high, it has to eat fairly frequently.

Bats are a rabbies vector species. Generally not wise to handle them, as rabbies is a very painful infection. Probably best to find someone a little less empathetic than yourself to euthanize the critter (like your county animal control or your neighbor's teenaged son).

Depends on the type of bat. Most eat insects and there are some that eat fruits. I do not think you want to hold it since you have no idea what kind of bacteria and disease it could be carrying.

Depends on the type, some eat fruit, some eat insects, some like cow blood. I would check with the local vet before dealing with it anymore. It may need to be checked out for diseases. Also, your vet migh have some more info on what it might eat.

how do you know it is a baby...all bats are very small. You need to get it to a wildlife rehab, they will be able to care for it properly. Also, it is illegal for you to own a bat. Bats can carry rabies, so you should be very careful handling it unless you have been vaccinated against it. If bitten, you will have to undergo rabies treatment.

try live insects and maybe some fruit but it may be against the law to keep a bat so call your local animal control center or HS.

soak a rag with water and let the little fella suck on it. That will keep it alive long enough until the Vet that you should have already called gets there.

You need to put it in a box and take it to your local nature center if they have a rehabilitation program. Or call animal control to come get it.

"Baby Crickets" Listen...leave the thing alone...it is probably diseased...don't risk your health. Have Animal Control come and get it. I know it is a baby...but it isn't worth the risk to you or your loved ones.
