Simply take out the CDROM and replace it with the CD-RW. The hookup is the same. You can get free burner software at Freeware.com

Plug in a spare IDE cable, it looks like a wide ribbon, or if the existing cable has a plug half way use that, if using a shared cable set the burner to "slave" on the pins at the back of the box, plug in a spare power plug.

just hook up the cd writer into the ide cable..and boot ur computer..if ur using xp it should install it for u automatically..
the trick here is how to mount or fix it in ur cpu cabinet..
u can hook it either as a slave or as primary..u should notice that the ide connecter has two ports to connect..one is already connected to ur old cd drive..(assuming u have one)..the other would be just below the first.. just plug it in connect the power cord..and boot...
u also need to see the jumper settings on the back of ur cd writer..it should be the same as ur old drive..
