I am Hispanic, and sometimes when I go to some Department store like Dillards, some people who work there take one look at me and my family (also Hispanic) and we dont get the same help as other people do (Mostly Caucasian). Dont get me wrong. I have white friends, and I am not racist, but sometimes it seems that SOME white people think that Hispanics dont have any money to buy a designer purse and stuff. Why are some people like that? Don't Hispanics deserve to be treated with the same respect as other people??

that's horrible!!! you are absolutely right; you not only derserve to be treated the same, it's your right! next time someone does that to you, say, "are you not helping me because you think i can't afford it? because that's racist and i can report you for that." they will turn very red and then you can march out of that store with dignity and pride, and then shop somewhere else. then, after you buy something, come back with the receipt, and show it to the salesperson and say, "this is what i would have spent here if you had been more courteous. i'm telling everyone i know not to shop here." that's what i would do.

This will apply to anyone who isn't 'white/caucasian'. I think in a lot of cultures, caucasians are seem as more superior, with a lot more knowledge, power and money. I am not hispanic but I am also not white, I am Chinese. My boyfriend always gets hassled when he goes on the bus, purely because he isn't white, but he doesn't get hassled only by ignorant kids but also by caucasian bus drivers. Once it got so extreme that the only solution my boyfriend could do was to say to the driver 'are you racist? what's your name and driver number? I'm gonna report you to your company.' He said this so loud that the whole bus turned to stare at the driver. Only then did the driver go speechless and started to drive the bus. I'm not saying that this is the solution to some racist comments or behaviour but why should anyone be subject to this sort of behaviour? Everyone deserves the same respect as anyone else, no matter what colour or status you are. We're all created different and unique, yet all are created equal...

It isn't only Hispanics. I have seen it happen with elderly folks and obese people too. And if you are female you will be overlooked in some places, like an auto parts store or building supplies.

People make assumptions. We shouldn't. But in the fast and furious world of retail sales the sales people do and some of their guesses are wrong.

Perhaps if you make some noise about it they will learn to see you differently. I made a scene in a building supply store once! They don't like to see me coming now but I do get service and several women have noticed that they are being helped there now so I guess it was worth stepping outside of my comfort zone on that one.
Be a force for change. Stand up for yourself. You don't need to be nasty. But you do need to insist on being treated as if you matter, because you do.

we're the minority & people think that hispanics & black a like can't succeed & make somethin gout of themselves. I get treated the same way when I go shopping & also they'll just tend to keep an extra eye on me as if I'm going to steal soemthing. I always confront them & walk out of the store, I dont want to shop at a store that's going to treat me like that.

because some people make false assumptions about people when they have insufficient information upon which to base any type of conclusion about them. hispanics, and everyone else, deserve to be treated with the same respect with which they treat others.

It's more of an economic prejudice. If they think you have money, they will fall all over themselves to help you. I once knew someone who was loaded, but dressed like a bum...and they would practically throw him out...UNTIL they found out he was loaded...and then you should have seen them dance and sing for their supper! Amazing. Hypocrisy abounds!

They might be wondering if they need to call the Migra or something. Some people hate Hispanics because so many are illegal.
