When people say multiple universes, aren't they just talking about different area's in the same, single universe, which incorporates absolutely EVERYTHING, including the so called "multiple universes"?

I know about "multiple universes" "having there own laws of time and physics." but what i'm trying to say is why name them as being different universes, why can't they be part of one single universe.

The term 'multiple universes' is used to convey the idea that there is more than one universe, in fact more than two universes, i.e. multiple universes.

They exist side by side, not one within another. Our universe does not contain EVERYTHING; this is a fallacy that followed 'The Flat Earth' into oblivion some time ago,

This theory is based on the fact that our universe is just one of many..I understand what u mean but some believe that our universe as we know it is just a small part and parallel universes run alongside our own..It's even thought by some that other universes are like our own with the same species i.e humans inhabiting planets in that system ..

String or M theory suggests the universe may have 11 dimensions, which allows the possibility of "multiple universes" in basically the same space.

Multiple universes is a concept that resulted from the discovery of string theory some 25 years ago. It is a mathematically proved concept that is part of another concept (super-string or M theory) which so far has proved to explain virtually every facet of the universe.

Another concept is that OUR universe is composed of 11 dimensions...only four of which we see/feel/exist in. Also OUR universe is only one of an infinite number of universes...all of which are slightly different...some last much longer than ours and some last a micro-billionth of one of our seconds.

By "concept" I mean a product/result of the mathematics required by string theory.

Tricky question

Universe is an oft used term that is too generic for our modern quantum theories.

Here is a simple Time based quantum mechanics conundrum for you to consider....

In simple terms of time, there are three universes we are all currently in. The one we were in our past, the one we are currently in, here in the present, and the one we will occupy in the future...we try to predict the future but we can not know what will happen: a million things can change the smallest thing to change which will effect the outcome...(this goes along the lines of Heisenbergs uncertainty principle)

The past is trying to be understood by ourselves, historians, geologists etc, to help us make sense of the present and the future but it occupies a different set of million variables, all of which can be definition never be known....ultimately they all still exist within our understanding of the same thing: no need to slip in to science fiction

So to answer your question....I think you are right, we are letting science fiction define terms to us....science fact tells us there is one big wholeness to the everythingness...Universe is a min-nomer of galatic proportions (well maybe a little bigger!!)

Theoretical physicists seem to introduce strange ideas like this at a drop of a hat. Usually to support some other strange notion of how the Universe works.

You are correct, there is only one Universe and it's universal.

No, multi universe is the concept of this universe being just one of many, each having there own laws of time and physics.

There is a theory in quantum psychics that says there are lots of universes and each of us are in everyone of them. But everything for us is different in each one, like things in our history were different causing different present times in each. Also they think our universe started when the membrane between each one bumped against each other.

Quantum Physics also says that there are allot of things going on around you at the same time, but you only see what your looking for basically.

Definitions change with perception. Many years ago, the sky was just the sky. Heaven was somewhere in it, and they were both above the Earth.

But now "the sky" can mean anything from the atmosphere near Earth, or beyond to deep space, the Earth is in it, and we've yet to find heaven.

Other than someone's fancy, why does anyone think there are other universes? It makes for neat stories, but is there any evidence to support these ideas?
