Yes. Cat feces contain toxoplasmosis... you inhale them when you are cleaning the litter box. (And it's a good excuse not to have to clean it when you are pregnant... worked for me... LOL).

Outdoor cats are more likely to spread toxoplasmosis. However, a pregnant woman should not take the chance of contracting it if she doesn't have to. Plain and simple.

Pregnancy is the perfect time to get 'the other half' to do those chores you don't like :) enjoy at least a few months of no litter box changing, not taking the garbage out (lifting) and some nights off from doing dishes because your feet and back ache and you need to get off of your swollen feet.

Best of luck.

How long have you had your cat? Years? Months? Weeks? Days? Have YOU always cleaned the cat box? If so (after years and months of doing so) you've already built up an immunity to the bacteria that thrives in the litter box. So chances are it won't hurt you. But to be on the safe side, I'd have someone else do it. It's amazing how many chores I don't have to do now because of pregnancy. heh heh heh

Yes it's true, but I've heard if you clean it it twice a day the bacteria won't have time to form.
