Not in Japan - it is thriving here!

I wish karaoke was the same worldwide. In Japan, a group of friends "rent a room" by the hour, eat, drink sing & chat. There are huge songbooks, usually 2 microphones and big screens.

1 hour can cost from 500 Yen (4.35 USD/2.28 British Pound)
There are also deals such as "All you can drink!" from about 1,200 Yen (10.45 USD/5.47 BP) per hour.

You can even rent a room til the first train starts running - so if you can't get home you can still have a sofa to sleep on!

Karaoke rocks and is an entertainment fashion which will never go out of fashion. Makes tonnes of money and the punters love it. Check the venues, it is well loved.

No, but I wish it was. Too many people think they can sing when they can't. Too many ears are assaulted by their row. I avoid places that put karaoke on.
