Definitely...."not enough $$ in it" said my Papa...with no concern for where I felt I would be happy, and needed. The rest of the family and some friends said pretty much the same..."you're crazy". If you can't beat em, join em........the crazy people that is.

Happy, poor, mental health worker.

My family, other than my father, was never really behind the career I really wanted which was law enforcement. The ultimate goal was to put myself through the police academy after 2 to 4 years of college (studying law and law enforcement), get on with the local PD, and in the end I was either going to be an agent for the DEA or on the SWAT team (I favored the latter the most). Unfortunately, all I ever got was a bunch of flack about how I would be dead before I was 25.

I had one of the best instructors while in college. He was a member of the Sheriff's Department as well as an instructor. I remember him asking everyone in class who wanted to be a cop if they were afraid of dieing. And if they said yes he always asked them then why do you want to be a cop. When he came to me he asked the same question and he was pleasantly surprised with my answer which was different from everyone else. I told him no I was not afraid of dieing because I could walk acrossed the street today, get hit by a car and die. I got big kudos from him that day! :o)

Unfortunately, things did not go as planned and I spent over 15 years in the purchasing field as a buyer, planner, supervisor, manager.

As they say, the best laid plans.......

Definitly. I wanted nothing more than to be a flight nurse and my mother had a fit. The nursing part she could deal with but the rest was a big no no and everyday I heard about how planes crashed and if she ran across something in a paper about a small one crashing I would find it under my plate at breakfast. I finally told her it was what I wanted and she had a choice I could either finish and do what I wanted or join the military. She decided the flight nurse was the less of two evils.
