Depends on the contract you have the customer knows about. 30 to 90 days . but id file something before it gets to outdated. small claims is only like 12 bucks. they get a letter and that helps them pay before you go anyway. and they know you aint waiting longer. 12 bucks plus your time. Talk to them they may just have problems and need time too. but get a honest answer you can tell and at least a agreed to amount by one week if they cant pay it all. gas is killing everyone

You can file a lien as soon as you are owed money for work on the car. It must go unpaid for a certain amount of time before you can apply for title to the vehicle.

You can do it on day one. As soon as you see a car slap a lien on it. It will take 90 days to process and if uncontested the car is yours. Try it with your neighbors house if he's asleep at the wheel you can have that too.
