I think the world has always had a mix of stupid and not so stupid people. I doubt the number of stupid people has changed over the centuries.
The news about stupid people just gets around better these days. After all, if you are very stupid or very smart, you easily make the news. The remaining population does not.
In the past stupid people could not draw much attention to themselves. After all if you live in New Jersey, you probably would not have had the opportunity to hear about some stupid person in say, Arkansas that ran himself over with a truck. But today, we have stupid people that inherent millions or billions of dollars and post video of themselves having sex with a married man on the Internet.

yesss lack of brain=lack of vocabulary.
