Hummingbirds are a migratory species. Ruby throated hummingbirds migrate to Central and South America each year. The migration for this year has already began so it is possible to see fewer birds in the northernmost portion of their range. They are primarily in the Eastern half of the US. The western species of hummers migrate south as well. Some migrate to the Southeastern US as well.

probably many have started to migrate south. Depends where you live. Here in Cali we have hummingbirds all year round, they are resident species, but in most places they will migrate south for the winter.
