My favorite of the Evil Dead Trilogy has been the Bruce Campbell movie Army of Darkness. It was a crazy idea to put a chainsaw on someones damaged arm, but it worked. I loved the character's never give up attitude.
But the movie Night of the Undead, the black and white classic, has long been considered the first, and best undead movie. It started all the other undead movies and set up the abilities and limitations of the undead. How poorly they think, why they want to eat human brains, why they have to be struck in the head to be killed (or suffer huge body damage) etc.

The first "Evil Dead" movie is much scarier than some recent horror movies even though it had a very small budget.
Unlike the first movie, "Evil Dead 2" is gruesome but funny...
Evil Dead 2: Dead By Dawn (1987):
The hysterical fight between Ash Williams and his own possessed attacking hand that breaks plates over his head and then drags him across the room towards a knife with which to kill him - Ash pins his hand to the floor with another knife and laughs spitefully: "Who's laughing now?"; then, he saws off the demon, evil hand (before it infects his entire body) and replaces it with a chainsaw blade while hysterically exclaiming: "Who's laughing now? Who's laughing now?"; the lobbed-off hand begins flopping around and even flips him the 'middle finger'.
"Evil Dead 3" had the biggest budget and does have several good moments but it was always going to be difficult to improve on the first two movies... so wasn't as memorable for me.

Evil Dead 2 is the best.
One is the same movie as two but made as a comedy
One was to be a horror movie but people laughed at it so they made evil dead 2 and people laughed even more with it.

army of darkness, it had the highest production standards and is almost a standalone movie
yet still retained its trademark sense of humour and managed to stay true to the first two movies

the first one is by far the best, it was made as a black comedy, then got completely taken off the rails by turning the others into some kind off slapstick farce!!!!
