well normally i have an open mind to musicals because they have some good aspects however i hated that worthless excuse for entertainment. it was filled with stupid teen drama, with bad acting skills, and with people who could not only not sing, but who could not dance!

I thought it was a nice introduction for tweens to the world of musicals--this day and age, there are/were probably many who'd never actually seen any musicals.
But I think people who were turned on to musicals through HSM need to learn quickly that HSM is *not* a particularly good musical; the plot was a severely watered-down version of Grease, the music wasn't a cohesive whole, the lyrics were cheesy (even for a musical), and the only talent that the singing showcased was that of the guy working the ProTools.
So I'm trying to see the positive side of things--I hope that somewhere out there, there are a few young people who became interested in musicals because of HSM, and have since discovered some *real* musicals--anything from new hits like Wicked and The Producers to Jonathan Larson's Rent to Andrew Lloyd Webber's crowdpleasers to Sondheim's rich material to to Rodgers and Hammerstein classics. It's just unfortunate that there are still many who think that HSM is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

My daughter loves it. However, it makes me want slit my wrists -not across, LENGTHWISE. It was absolutely nauseating. My dog can act better than any of them. It seemed it was trying to be a cross between Grease, and the old series Fame. It came across as cinematic swill.

Haha never even seen it and I don't plan to. My friends went crazy over it and I could barely even look at the DVD cover without wanting to gag. Either that or laugh really really hard.

I hate it, and that is the reason I haven't watched it. High schoolers dancing around and singing, kind of gay!

i don't really hate it. i just don't like it well enough that's all. It's an ok film. it's just ok but not that likeable. i think it's all about the music, so you'd appreciate the songs more than the actual movie.

It was boring and dumb. None of them could act to save their lives. And the story itself was stupid.
