The returns are found in medicine, building material research, eletronics, computers(direct result of Apollo), weather research, aero engineering, enviromental research, astro research, etc, etc.
NASA operates on a relative shoestring compared to almost every other area of our government and has a money to investment return ratio of about 30 to 1. Can you name any other govt agency that can make that claim?

If it's not the shuttle, they will find some OTHER way to blow the taxpayers' money. They sure as HE!! aren't going to give the money BACK, so we might as well enjoy the entertainment value.

It was always a botch job. Its supposed to be re-usable but it costs more then non re-usable craft for most missions.
