Kittys are easy keepers compared to puppies. Cats are much more independent and don't need the levels of attention that dogs need. I think dogs do more damage than cats. If you clean a cat's litter box every day it won't go in your flower beds etc. We have a large yard with a lot of trees and our cats like to sharpen their claws on the trees, so they completely leave our furniture alone. If this is not possible, provide a scratching post and show the cat how to use it by demonstrating (I kid you not!). Also it is important to neuter either a cat or a dog to keep them from fighting, spraying, roaming, etc. I would suggest a neutered male cat, especially if you have more than one cat. I've had males and females and the neutered males don't argue with each other as much as the neutered females, for some reason. Maybe that's where the term "catty" originated.

Get a kitty. They're soft, sweet and independant creatures. When they grow up they are devoted without the slobbering drool, they clean up after themselves and walk themselves-if they're outdoors-and are comfortable indoors, which is easier than a dog. They also don't sniff one another in the same unfortunate areas that dogs sniff when greeting one another. Kitties are also very tidy and don't unexpectedly knock you down to greet you, especially when you're carrying something fragile. Kitties and cats are wonderful!

A puppy if you have the time on your hands to train and give it exercise, plus the attention that it needs. Also have to be careful if it pees everywhere, plus the added cost of things, but they are the best pet to have if you want a best friend
A kitty if you don't have the time, want something cute, and absolutely sweet if you give it some attention!

If this is your first animal that you have to take care of by yourself, then I recommend a cat. Cats are self taken care of.. All you have to do is feed, water, and change the liter box. Puppy's are great, but are more work. You have to take them outside every half hour, feed, water, make sure he is not chewing on anything, train him to sit, stay, etc (something I am still struggling with) You have to listen to them bark, etc.

Well that depends on how much time you got on your hands.
Puppies need to be housebroken and that usually takes a while, also they need to be walked while you train them to pee and poo outside. A Kitten gets a litter box and thats the beginning and the end of training. Take your pick!

A cat is more self-sufficient. A dog, depending on the breed, will/may need you more. Also, is it going to be indoors or outside? A dog is better outside, depending on where you live, and the opposite is usually true of cats.

SIMPLE ANSWER:

Puppies tend to be more affectionate but you can't even leave them for a DAY without needing you.

Cats, if you get the right one can be very affectionate. Mine nuzzles me all the time and sits on my lap. PLUS you can leave your cats for days at a time. They manage to be okay even if you are gone for three days.

Wanna try that with a dog?...nope.

I say go with the cat. You'll be glad you did.
