I remember him as a solid QB worn down by sacks. Maybe I can't be objective because I was 9 & 10 duing his best years. His two really great seasons of 1985 and 1986. He quickly became my favorite Jet. But I'll try.

It CAN'T be said picking O'Brien over Dan Marino was a good move, however, is forming an opinion on Ken O'Brien because of that fair? His numbers fall just below Jim Everett who is widely regarded as a good solid NFL Starter. His numbers are actually better than Jim McMahon who is not viewed as a draft bust.

I just see O'Brien over Marino ranking low on the list of Jets mistakes. One player doesn't make a team. The great franchises put together large groups of solid players to win. With a star or two. The Jets never did this. It has long since been proven that QB can be one of those solid players, not neccasarily a star.

Ken O'Brien Career: 58.6 % Completion, 128 TD, 98 Int, 25,094 Passing Yards, 3 Playoff appearances (This IS the Jets mind you.)

actually O'brien was a consistent player, he never had a great team around him..Freeman McNiel was a solid back, but many games teh defense gave up a ton of points, they would be in 35-31 shootouts...Marino never shoud have gone to the Dolphins, he was a hometown boy still on the board when the Steelers picked, I could not even tell you who they picked instead, but we were without a decent qB for many years, of course he never would of had the same numbers in Pittsburg, but he probably would of had a ring or 2, and the Steelers a couple more becaus he would of had Foster,Bettis, and Franco for a couple of years

O'Brien was OK. He was never going to be in a class with the rest of that draft (not only Marino, but Elway, Kelly & Young as well). He jsut had the misfortune, as many starts coming out of college do, of playing on poor teams. That in itself will wear you down.
