"Runaway Train" by Soul Asylum is easy (three chords) requires no picking and sounds good when most people do it.
Also No Rain by Blind Melon, It Ain't Me by Bob Dylan, and Bobbie's Song by John Denver.
All three chords, all easy strummers, all mid-range voice songs.

Man, sorry I play bass. I can't think of any off the top of my head.
I NEVER thought of writing my own music but one day I just started hitting the strings and making the sounds that I wanted to come out. At first it was tough as hell but then it got really fun. It also helped me to learn to play stuff that I heard without reading the tab.
