He's being immature and maybe he is jealous too. If he was any kind of a friend, he would respect you and be happy that you have a girlfriend and allow you to have that space.
You should also offer to spend some time with him as well since he is your best friend. You two should do something together sometimes as well or maybe even find a nice lady to set him up with and go on a double date on occasion. Include him in some of your activities.

i just read your update! he does have a girl so why don't all 4 of you spend time together!
he is jealous because he wants you to himself.
tell him he's your bud!
tell him you need time with your girl the same as he needs time with his,
if he's a true mate he'll understand.
I've been mates with my best bud for 24 years now, sometimes we don't see each other for months but we keep in touch, go out once in a while, because our families come first but even when i don't see her she knows I'm thinking of her.
hope this helps x

Depends have u guys been friends longer than your relationship with the girl??
Cause if u guys have been friends 4 a long time u might lose your friendship but being with your girl is still important .
Give your gf lots of love but also promise to shoot hoops or something with your friend when u dont have plans with your gf but if your gf already knows about your plans with your friend and she wants you to reshcedule break up with her

Well, if he's your friend I wouldn't tell him to shut up, no matter what. I don't even tell people I don't like to shut up, but that's just the way I was raised. He probably doesn't hate you; in fact he probably loves you...hahaha! No, not in the brokeback mount'in way, but as a friend and he hates to lose your attention..hehe

no he doesn't have the right to hate you. he wants you to be around him 24/7 and that's not the way it should be. i wouldn't worry about it if I were you. as long as your girlfriend is pleased with the way you are treating her, then you should be happy.

i dont think he hates you...i think he is just jealous...because you are his friend and he'd like to spend more time with you
believe me:nothing is more important than friendship
ofcourse you will spend time with your girlfriend
but take it as an advice:
dont lose your friend....because you will regret it at the end
