Some people ask some pretty contraversial questions then simply pick an answer that supports their own viewpoint rather than put it out to vote. That's just wrong. It seems to defeat the whole spirit of the forum.

You're right. You don't see too many open ended questions in here. Actually most of the questions in here are asked by adolescents on very elementary subjects. Sometimes I'm hard pressed to find someone with a functioning brain.

it does defeat the whole spirit of the forum. i almost wish that you could only put answers to a vote... but c'est la vie. there are some questions that require the asker to pick the best answer.

it just makes me think the people who do so are too childish to risk such embarrassment by allowing a "wrong" answer to somehow float up to the surface... are they so insecure in their own positions? did you want our answers or not, and if you didn't, why'd you even ask?

I think the real spirit and intent of the voting is for the asker to select an answer that pleased them the most. I think, and it might not sit well with everyone, that whether the answer is right, wrong, factual or otherwise is not the point...it's the fact it made the asker happy and that is the point.

Its not a 'forum'. Its supposed to be for getting Answers to Questions. Not for arguing a point.

So who would choose the best answer? Anyway you think about it the person choosing the answer will have his/her preconceived ideas about what the answer should be. In my opinion, it doesn't matter which answer is chosen as the best, it is the ability to discuss your ideas and read other people's ideas that is important.

they aren't really asking questions, and should be posting their opinions in some other forum, not here.
