Talk to a specialist and your doctor, find what treatments are available and what can be done.
No matter how bad thing maybe, be positive and proactive. explore you opinions.
Assuming the worst, if there something you want to do, do it.
I known people who never did many of the things they wanted to do because they kept putting it off.

The normal and most appropriate action would be a resection of the colon to remove the diseased section and rejoin the remaining halves (unless the growth is very low down when removal of the rectum and the formation of a stoma may be appropriate). The colon is long and even the loss of a couple of feet would be no problem heathwise. If the growth is contained within the colon that would be that, though some chemotherapy would probably be advised to be on the safe side. If there is any signs of it having spread through the outer colon wall then further surgery and chemo would be needed. It is going to be tough and take time but two things are in your favour (one it has been diagnosed and two you are young) so there is every chance of getting over this.
Stay positive and take care

Cancer of the Colon at the age of 27 is a real tragedy that you will have to face. With good surgical intervention, and if it hasn't spread, with proper management and treatment and good follow-up, you should be feeling a lot better in a few weeks to months. There are new treatments for Ca of the Colon that have had good success. Look at Darrell Strawberry, the baseball player. He has had Colon Cancer for many many years, and it has even spread to his liver. However, with treatment and surgical intervention he is still going strong at least 10 years since the original diagnosis. As long as there is life, there is hope. Pray for a good outcome.

What shocking news that must be for you. At first it's hard to believe it's true, I bet.
What does the doctor say to do next? Does he recommend surgery? Is he referring you to a cancer specialist?
I would find out as much as you can about the specific type of cancer that you have. There is much reliable medical information available on the internet and through your doctor. After you know as much as possible about the cancer, what are the possible treatments, risks and alternatives, then you can make an informed decision about what to do.
I wish you well.

was the "cancer" after laboratory tests have been done. if so your doctor will be referring you to an oncologist. it is the oncologist that will determine the kind of treatment appropriate to beat the "cancer."

Gee, your doctor really should have explained that to you. I suggest finding another doctor. The large mass could have simply been feces, but your doctor should have told you that.
