My 21 yr old neice is going to visit San Francisco -- where should I suggest she go, that doesn't cost a lot?

She doesn't have a lot of money but wants to see exciting things -- she would rather go to LA, so what is there in the San Francisco Bay area that is comparable?

Alcatraz, Fisherman's Wharf, Golden Gate Bridge, Chinatown, Haight Street, Ghirardelli Square

Drive around! Parks, bridges, piers, hills, sites you will not see unless you drive. Pick up a tourist map, and drive to the sites. In between, while driving, you will discover many things not on tour maps.
